Hi Friends,
When you think of spring what comes to mind ?.........flowers, baby chicks.....
.
and..... CHOCOLATE BUNNIES !
This is our third day of no rain! It's cold but the sun is out .
I can't wait to get outside to see if there are any signs of SPRING.
Yes! The Freesias' are starting to bloom.

You will need:
A plaster or paper mache' Bunny- I found mine at the Thrift Shop
If you find a ceramic bunny with a high glossy shine, you can still paint it
but first spray with a primer made for glass.

He looked just fine white, but a bit plain. I loved his carved details !
Here is my inspiration!
Yummy Chocolate !
Real Chocolate Bunnies are made from molds like these.
You will also need
Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint and
a paintbrush
Burnt Umber is the perfect match for Milk Chocolate !
He looks good enough to eat!
You could leave him in all his chocolaty goodness, add a bow and call it a day-
or you could add a little more detail.
Bunny kisses
The base has an area with some grass and flowers. I am going to paint these
and I think I will paint his eyes.
I used paint I already had-
Bluebell Blue
Butter Yellow
Hydrangea Pink
Light Green
Black
The eyes were a Butter Yellow dot then a smaller Black dot.
The tip of the handle of the paint brush is a handy tool for making dots.
Let your Bunny dry completely, then you could
use a Clear Satin Sealer to protect and seal the paint.
I had a scrap of dark brown felt on hand.
I like to add felt to the under side of my crafts just as a finishing touch.
I used Tacky Glue to attach the felt, let dry then trim with scissors.
Trimmed, and a good color match
oops!
Do you eat the ears first ?
What? What? WHAT?
I can't hear you !
In a thrifted basket like the one I had as a kid !
He found a friend!
I just love SPRING !
Thank you for stopping by and hanging out with me-

I love it! I have a VERY old chocolate rabbit that never got eaten that I was thinking of painting to preserve it to use as decor. I don't know if the paint would make it less breakable than the chocolate is but I think I'm going to try it after seeing your project. I think the color you used is perfect so I'm going to get some and see what I can do with Mr. Peter Chocolate Rabbit!
ReplyDeleteNaomi,
DeleteThat's a great idea ! Come back and tell me if it works.
Maybe covering with Mod Podge would preserve the chocolate? xo Lisa S
This is SO AWESOME!! What a fun idea! It really does look like you could eat it. What great decor. :)

Hello, could you tell me if you used a Primer and If so what type was it? An acrylic base for acrylic paint? Does that sound right?
ReplyDeleteJust used regular cheapy acrylic paint no primer needed. I think you would only need primer if you are painting over an existing glossy finish or if you are concerned about bleed through. You may just need a couple more coats to cover. I hope that helps.
