Hello my friends,
I stopped my favorite thrift shop this week
and found a small bag of embroidered scraps for .50 -
I intended to make more Junk Journal covers.
After I got home I realized someone had cut off the embroidered section
of a few pillowcases.
I washed and ironed the pieces.
I had a few vintage wood hangers on hand.
I was able to match up the pieces.
Each hanger was completely different,
so I made a pattern for each one.
I traced the curve, marked the pattern
and the hanger with the same number.
Pinned and stitched right sides together.
Leaving a 1/8'' opening at the top to pull the hanger through.
The width of the pillowcase fit the hanger perfect.
I had hardly any trimming to do-
If you want to hang items with thin straps,
you can sew a couple of buttons to the top seam on the hanger.
Pretty in the guest closet.
They fit nice and snug over the hanger !
That was the easiest project ever!
Thank you for visiting :)

These are fabulous. I recently made my friend go out to the trash to retrieve the embroidered pillowcases, doilies and runners that she had thrown out. Can’t wait to take another look to see if have something to make these! Thank you!

What a lovely craft!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful. The only thing I would add is a layer of batting over the top of the hanger to pad it a bit; I hate it when a dress blouse like silk has hanger marks and I have to iron them out! The button hint is genius!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy! We have Covid over here this week- I barely had the energy and brain- power to push through each day.
DeleteI may go back and add batting later.

Carol, You are so sweet. I'm glad each one is different- so they don't need to be perfect :)

I love making things from old linens like this, something you only have small pieces to work with so it's nice to have lots of ideas of what can be made with them. Thanks for this lovely idea.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I will be on the look out for more embroidered scraps.

Love what you have done with the embroidery pillow cases.
ReplyDeleteI left the bottom open to slide in the hanger. You certainly could hand stitch to close.
Deletexo Lisa S
Do you sew the bottom closed or leave it open? I want to make these.
