Canvas Bag Makeover

 Hi friend,

I had a left over canvas makeup bag from a party

two years ago. I don't know any brides-to -be

so I planned to send it off to the thrift store-

It was a nice thick bag so I wanted to see if I

could give it a makeover first.

I looked through some paper scraps and found

this piece of sheet music just about the size

of the bag.

I spread a light coat of MOD PODGE to the back

of the paper.

Note:

If you are planning to wash the bag, go ahead and use the

Mod Podge formula for fabrics.

Regular MOD PODGE will work fine for this project.

Press paper in place, smooth out any air bubbles.

Let dry, check to see if all the edges are

adhered to the cloth.

If not, use your paint brush to tuck some Mod Podge in the

open areas.

I added a bit of collage from a magazine

on one side of the sheet music.

I also had a rub-on label.

Then after everything was dry, I put a top coat of

Mod Podge over the whole piece.

I tied a ribbon on the zipper pull.

The bag is still soft and pliable.

The original graphics are completely covered.

I see these canvas cloth bags all the time at

places like

 Dollar Tree and HOBBY LOBBY

for about a dollar.

That's a great deal!

I can't buy a zipper and cloth for a dollar and

it saved me the time it takes to  make the bag.

Some times you get bags with advertising

on them or you don't like the design-

I hope I inspired to give one a makeover.

Have a great week!

    1. Beth, I found this out when I got Mod Podge on the sleeve of a favorite jacket. I tried washing and every type of remover I had in the cupboard. No way it was coming off. I ending up using sandpaper! That worked a little ! There is a Mod Podge just for fabric ....it must be like super glue! YMMV !

  3. Excellent upcycle , first of all. The vintage design is sweet as can be. It would make an adorable gift too.

  4. That's lovely. I've done a similar thing with iron on bondweb but it's great to hear that good old Mod Podge will work too. Thank you for sharing with us at Handmade Monday :-)

    1. Julie,
Thank you. I like your bondweb idea. I almost got rid of the bag. With my local fabric store going out of business, I thought I should try something.
