Adding Labels to Jars- Faux Rust Lids

Hi Friends,

Thank you so much for your

prayers concerning my husbands' surgery!

He's resting and doing well.

The first part is not true, he never rests.

My job for now is keeping him from doing too much!

I decided to try and do something crafty today :)

These jars came from Dollar tree and they are still available-

 I found these  apothecary labels

at The Graphic Fairy.

https://thegraphicsfairy.com/old-fashioned-apothecary-labels/

I cut out a few that I liked.

The jars have an indentation where the labels will be glued.

I used MOD PODGE to adhere the labels.

To age the lids, I added cinnamon!

It's the perfect trick to make faux Rust.

Use white glue or podge podge on edges and creases

where you would naturally find rust.

Add cinnamon  using a dry brush like applying makeup.

Brush off excess

Cinnamon smells so good !

I just needed to change things up for Fall!

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Thank you for visiting-

Hugs!

Lisa S

If you liked the rust technique...here's another!

  1. I love the cinnamon hint. Would like to try it on some Halloween jars! I swear, though, I spend half my life (a great exaggeration!) trying to scrub rust (and crud) off of stuff!

  3. We must have the same taste in labels, your little jars are adorable so I pinned them, and I have the same variety set of black labels I use in my pantry, and I love those too. Our husbands must be brothers as well, rest is a four letter word.

  7. How did you dull the shine on the lids of the jars? I have the exact same ones and was curious about what technique you used on yours before applying the cinnamon (rust)?

    1. My Dollar Tree had two choices of lids. You can use steel wool on the lids to dull the shine.
      I hope that helps.

  10. Does it stay on if you touch it much. It looks great. I love graphics fairy. Thanks

    1. Yes, it does stay on well. If your jars get a lot of use you can cover the 'rust' with MATTE Mod Podge. If you get tired of the look you can remove with steel wool.
